Supa Bug Limited

In Nairobi, Kenya, Supa Bug Limited produces insect-protein feed using black soldier fly larvae, offering poultry and aquaculture farmers a cost-saving, circular-economy alternative to conventional soy and fishmeal feed. 

Supa Bug recognises the need for a cost-effective homegrown alternative to the expensive imported feed, which causes financial strain on smallholder farmers. This creates an opportunity for Supa Bug to address two distinct problems simultaneously: produce affordable animal feed from insect protein while recycling organic waste that would otherwise be poorly managed leading to health risks and pollution. In addition to this, Supa Bug trains smallholder farmers on effective sustainable farming practices.

This year, Nature’s Pitch is stepping in to help them scale up production. A new in-house milling machine is coming online to improve turnaround time and quality control, a pelletizer is being installed to move from mash to pelleted feed, and biopod capacity is expanding to process greater volumes of organic waste.
